Youth pleads not guilty, further detained

KUCHING: A 22-year-old man, who pleaded not guilty to raping his underage girlfriend, was further detained at the Puncak Borneo Prison today (June 22).

Sessions Court judge Maris Agan made the decision to have Zinadin Kana Wain to further detained in prison after his application to be released on bail was denied by the deputy prosecutor.

The court then set July 26 for case management and also ordered the deputy prosecutor to prepare all documents under Section 51A of the Criminal Procedure Code to be given to the accused in preparation for trial.

The court also advised the accused to use the lawyer services to assist him in the next trial.

The accused, who is self-employed, was charged under Section 376(1) of the Penal Code which carries a jail term of up to 20 years and whipping if convicted.

He was accused of raping his 14-year-old girlfriend until she got pregnant in November last year at a house in Kampung Stampin Iban here.
