KUCHING: Digital connectivity and speed is among the major issues pointed out by youth across Sarawak, especially those from the rural areas.

Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said this issue affects the people more as the whole world is moving forward in terms of digitalisation.

“At almost every place that we visited during Jelajah Belia Sarawak 2020, there will be at least one question on digital connectivity raised by participants.

“It is a very frustrating situation for the people, especially those residing in rural areas. Therefore, they would request for the connectivity speed to be improved,” he said.

He said this to reporters when officiating at the Jelajah Belia Sarawak 2020 for Tupong constituency held at Waterfront Hotel here today.

Abdul Karim then explained that the state government understands the importance of digital connectivity as it is needed to develop the state’s economy.

“This issue will be included in the coming state Budget,” he said.

Also present were Tupong assemblyman Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman, the ministry’s permanent secretary Nancy Jolhi, Kuching Resident Sherrina Hussaini, as well as Youth and Sports Department director Azura Sarbin.
