Youths gain fresh TVET insights during PPKS – DBNA Skills Camp

PUNCAK BORNEO: The recent Skills Camp, co-organised by Pusat Pembangunan Kemahiran Sarawak (PPKS) and the Penrissen branch of the Dayak Bidayuh National Association (DBNA), brought home the importance of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) as a gateway to industry-relevant careers.

Held on August 4, 2018 in the Multi-purpose Hall of Kampung Benuk, Jalan Puncak Borneo and attended by 52 youths, the one-day camp, named “Kem Kemahiran PPKS Puncak Borneo 2018”, was officiated by Chairman of DBNA Penrissen Branch, Aloysious Kuyong.

In his address, Aloysious highlighted that the skills camp, a noble initiative between PPKS and DBNA Penrissen Branch, was an important outreach programme – to share with students, school leavers, and parents on the importance of skills training/ TVET and attractive career pathways.

In this aspect, he commended the management and staff members of PPKS for initiating a wide range of activities during the camp such as motivational and career talks, an exhibition featuring TVET programmes offered by PPKS, a showcase of training equipment and students’ projects, and course counselling sessions.

He also shared various programmes spearheaded by DBNA Penrissen Branch such as Career Guidance Seminars for Form 4 and 5 students, and the broad spectrum of activities for primary school students. Speaking on behalf of Executive Director of PPKS, Hallman Haji Sabri, PPKS Kuching’s Campus Director, John Rizal Biki, thanked Aloysious and his team members from DBNA Penrissen Branch for their support in making the skills camp a reality. “Career choice is an important decision along one’s journey.

I am confident that students and school leavers who participate in today’s Skills Camp will be able to make right decisions about their future careers.”
