Youths told to seize economic opportunities

KUCHING: Sarawak Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah has urged youths to seize the economic opportunities that come their way.

He said various platforms for doing business were available in Sarawak, Malaysia and globally.

“Sarawak recorded a labour force participation rate exceeding the national rate by 69.4 percent in the second quarter of this year.

“Based on the Malaysian Labour Force Survey Report, unemployment rate for 15 to 24 years old increased in Feb 2021 to 13.9 percent (347,600) compared to Jan 2021, while the unemployment rate for 15 to 30 years old remained at 9.2 percent,” he said during a youth programme, Program Ziarah Belia @ Balai Ringin 2021, on Thursday (Oct 14).

“It is apparent from our prior programmes that Sarawakian youths are always in high spirits when it comes to assisting society deal with challenging situations.

“Therefore, we urge more youths to come forward and to be actively involved in volunteer activities.”

In light of the encouraging support, Abdul Karim revealed that the ministry would implement more volunteer programmes, given the importance of youths and their role in achieving an integrated and balanced society.

At the programme, he also presented donations in the form of temperature scanners, face masks and hand sanitisers to 30 youth clubs and associations in the Balai Ringin area.
