SIBU: The zakat fitrah rate (personal tithe) in Sarawak for this year has been set at RM7 per person.

Tabung Baitulmal Sarawak (TBS) general manager Datuk Abang Mohd Shibli Abang Mohd Nailie, in making the announcement today (March 18), said that the rate is equivalent to a bag of rice, which is a staple food of the people of Sarawak.

Abang Mohd Shibli noted that TBS has provided various payment methods, including at all TBS counters and through 783 Amils throughout Sarawak.

“Zakat Fitrah payments can also be made online through the Official Portal ‘Baitulmal Kamek’ and the Tabung Baitulmal Sarawak Application.

“It can also be paid through online banking at Maybank2U, Maybank QRPay, Bank Muamalat QRPay, MyEG, SnapNPay, and Sarawak Pay,” he said at a press conference here today.

He also disclosed that the total collection of zakat and fitrah last year in Sarawak was RM5.7 million.

“This year (2023), we are aiming to collect Zakat Fitrah of RM6 million. There is a slight increase because when the size of the family increases, even if the child is one day old or one month old, they are still counted as extra,” he said.

Meanwhile, on the Hari Bersama Asnaf programme, Mohd Shibli said that various activities were held, including the ‘Back to School’ programme, which involved 160 recipients, charity assistance (140 recipients), and more, involving a total expenditure of RM74,800.

“This is the second time we have held it in Sibu; we have also held it in Kuching and Miri, where our Islamic Complex is located,” he said.
