KUCHING: Committed to supporting the conservation and preservation of orang utans, singer-songwriter Zee Avi yesterday adopted two orang utan babies – Mas and Sigat – at Semenggoh Wildlife Centre, here.

The Miri-born artiste, whose real name is Izyan Alirahman, stressed the importance of conserving wildlife in the midst of rapid development.

“It is necessary to have awareness campaign on wildlife conservation. We should help our society to become responsible citizens and further protect our orang utans,” she said.

Zee, who is based in Los Angeles, was interviewed after visiting the orang utans at Semenggoh Wildlilfe Centre.

The 33-year old also said that collaborating with the management of Semenggoh Wildlife Centre would be an effective way to share information about wildlife protection.

“Personally, this visit is very special because the rewarding part of being an artiste is to be able to share information about Sarawak through my work.

“And knowing that it helps promote my homeland to the world makes me happier,” she added.
