MUKAH: A local community leader has suggested that the 2022 State Budget be tabled through any available legal avenue before the current state of Emergency in Sarawak ends on Feb 2 next year.

Kapitan Kang Boon Eong said this was because the state needed funds for operating and development expenditures next year.

He pointed out that previously, the following year budget was prepared a few months earlier and tabled at the end of the current year, usually November.

“The Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government needs to find ways to table the 2022 State Budget, perhaps using Zoom application,” he told New Sarawak Tribune Tuesday (Aug 3).

Kang, a businessman involved in the service industry including a hotel, explained that life must go on, and therefore, a budget must be available for Sarawak and its people to move forward.

Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, was quoted in a local English daily on Monday (Aug 2) as saying that the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly (DUN) should consider seeking the Yang di-Pertuan Agong’s consent to let the august House reconvene to table the 2022 State Budget.

The proclamation of the Emergency by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong recently was to prevent the 12th state election from being held within 60 days from the expiry of the nationwide Emergency in view of the current Covid-19 situation in Sarawak.
