KUCHING: Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) Sarawak is preparing to face the coming 12th State Election (PRN-12) which is expected to be held as early as the end of next year.

Entrepreneur Development Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Redzuan Mohd Yusof said up to now 12 Sarawak Bersatu divisions had been formed, while the remaining 19 are still waiting for approval of their registration.

“We are expecting to announce the appointment of the 12 division heads on July 20 to make way for the election of Sarawak Bersatu chairman because the chairman has to be elected by the 12 division heads.

“We have several names and new faces for our consideration as chairman of Sarawak Bersatu,” Redzuan said at a press conference after attending the State-level Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) Gawai Raya gathering here, yesterday.

Redzuan who is also a supreme council member of Bersatu and coordinator of Sarawak’s Bersatu also stressed that the party’s presence in the state was not meant to divide political parties in Sarawak but meant to give the people a platform to express their views.

“We don’t have any hidden agenda for coming to Sarawak. Our main objective is to help enhance the economy of the people in Sarawak and for them to benefit from it.

“I was surprised when I went to a city in Sarawak and saw the chances and resources that the people of Sarawak can benefit from but they failed to enjoy the benefits like the people in the city.

“Sarawak has 68 different ethnic groups and our presence acts as a platform for them to voice out their dissatisfactions so that they can also enjoy and improve their economic well-being as Sarawak is a resource-rich state,” he said.
