15 arrested for illegal gambling

MIRI: Police arrested twelve people including three women during a raid at a premises at Jalan Luak Bay here last Sunday night.

The 10.50pm operation, codenamed ‘Op Dadu’, was carried out by a team from the district’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

Miri District Deputy Police chief, Supt Stanley Jonathan Ringgit said besides the twelve suspects, aged between 19 and 59, police also detained three Indonesian women, believed to be caretakers of the premises.

“Police also seized three simulator machines and RM1,200 in cash,” he said here.

Stanley said all suspects were detained at Miri Central Police Station lockup for further investigation.

“Police are investigating the case under Section 4B(a) of the Open Gaming House Act, 1953 and Section 5 (2) of the Entertainment Ordinance, 2001,” he said.
