16 deaths reported in state

KUCHING: Sixteen new deaths related to Covid-19 were reported on Tuesday (Sept 28), with these fatalities occurring on Sept 9 and from Sept 21 to 27.

The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said the death recorded on Sept 9 involved a 68-year-old woman from Bintulu who passed away at the Bintulu Hospital.

“The case had diabetes, chronic lung disease and a history of stroke,” it said in its daily Covid-19 statement today. 

The committee said the death recorded on Sept 21 was that of a 97-year-old woman from Bintulu who passed away at the Bintulu Hospital, adding that the case had high blood pressure, diabetes and dyslipidaemia.

As for the death registered on Sept 24, the committee said it was a Brought In Dead (BID) case involving a 63-year-old man from Serian whose body was brought to the Serian Hospital. It added that the man had diabetes.

The SDMC said that six deaths linked to Covid-19 were recorded on Sept 25. One was that of a 70-year-old man from Sibu who passed away at the Sibu Hospital. He had high blood pressure, diabetes and dyslipidaemia.

“The second death on Sept 25 was that of a 59-year-old man from Sibu who passed away at the Sibu Hospital. He had high blood pressure, diabetes and a history of stroke.

“The third death was that of a 75-year-old man from Sibu who passed away at the Sibu Hospital. He had high blood pressure, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and heart disease,” it said.

The SDMC said the fourth death was that of a 77-year-old woman from Sibu — with high blood pressure, diabetes, dyslipidaemia, and lung disease — who passed away at the Sibu Hospital.

It said another death recorded on Sept 25 was that of a 92-year-old man from Kuching who passed away at the Bau Hospital. He had high blood pressure, dyslipidaemia, gout, COPD and heart disease.

“The sixth death registered on Sept 25 was that of a 70-year-old man from Kapit who passed away at the Kapit Hospital. He had high blood pressure, dyslipidaemia, gout and cancer,” said the committee.

The SDMC said five deaths were recorded on Sept 26. The first was that of a 30-year-old man from Sarikei who passed away at the Sarikei Hospital. He had obesity and obstructive sleep apnea.

It said the second death was that of a 58-year-old woman from Betong who passed away at the Sarikei Hospital. She had high blood pressure and chronic kidney disease.

“The third death recorded on Sept 26 involved a 68-year-old woman from Miri who passed away at the Miri Hospital. She had high blood pressure, diabetes, dyslipidaemia and cancer,” it said.

The fourth death, it said, was that of an 82-year-old man from Kuching who passed away at the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH). He had no known history of illness.

“The fifth death recorded on Sept 26 was that of an 87-year-old woman from Kuching who passed away at the SGH. She had high blood pressure, diabetes, and asthma,” said the SDMC.

It revealed that two deaths were recorded on Sept 27. The first was that of a 78-year-old man from Serian — with high blood pressure and chronic liver disease — who passed away at the SGH.

“The second death registered on Sept 27 was a 76-year-old man from Sibu who passed away at the Sibu Hospital. He had high blood pressure, diabetes, and chronic kidney disease,” said the committee.
