MIRI: Sixteen people from four families were left homeless after a fire gutted their houses at Kampung Subak, Jalan Bekenu here on Today (Sept 19).
Two persons were injured in the incident. According to one of the house owners, Hadi Ibrahim, 77, he was in the kitchen when the blaze occurred.
“I heard someone screaming ‘fire’ from outside the house and not long after that, several people barged into the kitchen and brought me out of the area,” he said when met at the scene.
Within minutes, the flames jumped to other sections of the house. The scene of the fire is located about 10km from Bekenu bazaar.
Seven firefighters from the Batu Niah station were deployed to the scene upon receiving an emergency call at 11.54am.
