SARIKEI: A total of 1,640 houses in the Repok constituency received financial assistance through the Projek Pintu initiative from Deputy Minister of Natural Resources, Environment, and Climate Change Datuk Seri Huang Tiong Sii.

He said the assistance, disbursed in conjunction the Gawai Dayak celebration, aims to ensure the well-being of longhouse residents in Repok.

“Gawai Dayak, celebrated alongside Hari Raya Aidilfitri, Chinese New Year, and Christmas, is a cherished tradition for the Sarawak community. For the Dayak people, it holds deep significance and is a tradition passed down through generations.

“This celebration not only strengthens inter-ethnic relationships but also plays a crucial role in preserving the culture and heritage of the Dayak people.

“Thus, it is hoped that the contribution will be utilised effectively, especially for the upcoming Gawai Dayak celebration,” he said in a statement.

The assistance was distributed on Tuesday (May 21) and yesterday (May 22).

On Tuesday, 32 longhouses in Zone A received aid from the Projek Pintu, benefiting 487 doors, while 72 longhouses in Zones A, C, and D received assistance, totaling 1,153 doors yesterday.

The handover was presented by Kapitan Ling Dien Yong on behalf of Huang, who is also Repok assemblyman and Sarikei MP, to the respective Tuai Rumah (longhouse chiefs).

Huang also urged longhouse residents to support the Sarawak government under the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) coalition and Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

He praised the many positive changes, assistance, and attention provided in various forms under the state government, such as infrastructure development projects, basic supplies, and social support, which have significantly improved the quality of life and ensuring that remote areas are not left behind.
