KUALA LUMPUR: The Housing and Local Government (MHLG) Ministry has targeted the setting up of Community Consensus Secretariats (CCS) (Sekretariat Muafakat Community) in 20 People’s Housing Projects (PHP) handled by the ministry nationwide, this year, which are set to be the main movers under the National Community Policy.

Its minister Zuraida Kamaruddin said the secretariats would co-ordinate programmes and activities between the PHP residents and the public and private agencies focusing on eight main clusters, namely, infrastructure and maintenance; cleanliness, environment and health; security; education and skill.

“The National Community Policy is for developing the communities, and although it is focused on the development of the B40 group, we believe if we are able to raise the quality of life of the B40 group, it will definitely bring a wave of change to all the people in the country,” she said in Dewan Rakyat today.

She was answering to a supplementary question from Datuk Seri Dr Santhara Kumar Ramanaidu (PH-Segamat) on whether the secretariat would be set up in all the PHPs in Malaysia during the Ministers’ Questions Time.

Currently, Zuraida said, the secretariat had existed as a pioneer project at the Lembah Subang 2 PHP, Selangor with 40 programmes already implemented.

The National Community Policy is a MHLG initiative to ensure that community developments could be implemented in a holistic manner and to complement the physical development polices which existed prior to this.

Earlier, Zuraida, before answering the question, appealed to the Dewan Rakyat to recite the Fatihah and meditate in remembrance of Muhammad Haziq Mohd Tarmizi who was confirmed to be one of the 50 people who were killed at the random shooting incidents at two mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand, last Friday.

The Foreign Ministry today confirmed that Muhammad Haziq was one of the 50 people who were killed in the incident. – Bernama
