KUCHING: The World Water Day 2024 celebration will take place from tomorrow (Apr 27) to Sunday (Apr 28) at the Kuching Waterfront, prompting road closures in the area.

Kuching District police chief ACP Ahsmon Bajah said that to ensure the smooth running of the event, several roads will be closed starting at 5 am on Apr 28, with the event kicking off at 9 am.

The affected roads include Jalan Market, Jalan Power, Jalan Gambier, Old Courthouse Road, Jalan Main Bazaar and Jalan Tun Abang Haji Openg.

Ahsmon advised the public to use designated parking areas such as Reservoir Park, Saujana Building, UTC parking lot, Jalan Urat Mata, Sarawak Plaza, Dewan Suarah, Tun Jugah Building, Medan Pelita and Plaza Merdeka.

He also noted that road closures and diversions might be adjusted based on real-time traffic assessments by traffic police officers.

“The need for road closures and diversions depends on the current conditions deemed appropriate based on the traffic flow assessment by traffic police officers on duty to not to disturb road users who wish to conduct other daily activities,” he said.

Ahsmon urged the public to adhere to traffic control signs and avoid parking on the roadside, which could lead to congestion.
