BINTULU: Special donations amounting to RM222,800 were given to 2,228 monthly aid beneficiaries from the Bintulu Division Social Welfare Department in conjunction with this year’s Gawai Dayak festival.

The brief aid presentation ceremony was officiated by Taddy Ajin, the special administrative officer to Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Port Development Sarawak and Samalaju assemblyman Datuk Majang Renggi.

At the ceremony, Taddy handed out RM100 in cash and food hampers worth RM80 to 87 monthly aid recipients from the Bintulu Division Social Welfare Office.

“We hope this contribution can ease the financial burden of the recipients who will be celebrating Gawai Dayak soon,” the department said through a statement today.

It added that those who were not present during the programme will have their aid credited directly into their accounts.

Medical aid in the form of wheelchairs and beds was also presented to Barie Kanyan.

Earlier in his speech, Taddy said the Sarawak government is always concerned about the interests of its people by providing various aid, prioritising the people’s welfare, and emphasising achievements.

According to him, besides providing monthly financial assistance and one-off aid (Disaster Assistance), various other initiatives have also been established, such as the Kenyalang Gold Card initiative (for those aged 60 and above), Bereavement Assistance, Special Kidney Patient Assistance, and many more.

“As of last April, the government has spent RM1.1 million on monthly aid under the Bintulu Division Social Welfare Office.

“If we look at the period from January to April 2024, the total amount spent by the government was RM4.6 million,” it said.
