282 flood victims placed at six temporary relief centres

KUCHING: The number of flood victims in Kuching, Bau and Siburan districts has increased to 282 people, involving 67 families, this morning compared to 127 people yesterday (Feb 28).

The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said that as at 10am, six relief centres were opened to accommodate the victims.

In Kuching, the Surau Nur Hidayah PPS at Kampung Batu Kitang Jaya is currently accommodating the highest number of victims at 124 people from 26 families.

Meanwhile, the SJK Chung Hua Batu Kawa PPS which opened at 6pm yesterday, is housing 80 victims from 19 families, while the Dewan Serbaguna Batu Kitang Jaya which opened at 10.30pm, is providing shelter to 22 victims from five families.

SDMC said a new PPS at Dewan Serbaguna Kampung Mundai in Siburan was opened at 7pm to house 27 victims from seven families.

In Bau, 20 victims sheltering in Dewan Perdana PPS have been transferred to a new PPS in Dewan Datuk Seri Mohammad Hamdan at the Bau fire station.

The number of victims sheltering at the Balai Raya Kampung Opar PPS remains the same with nine victims.

The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) today issued a warning of continuous rain for several areas in Sarawak, which is expected to last until tomorrow (Mar 2).

The Dewan Serbaguna Batu Kitang Jaya PPS housing 22 victims from five families.
