300 expected to attend 7th Melanau Cultural Symposium

MUKAH: About 300 participants from the Division and beyond are expected to gather at Kingwood Resort Mukah from October 31 to November 2. They will be here for the 7th Melanau Cultural Symposium (MCS) 2018 which is organised by the Federation of Melanau Associations Sarawak (FMAS) in collaboration with the Melanau Association of Kuching, Melanau Association of Mukah and the state government.

Four working papers will be tabled at the three-day symposium, namely, those related to social, economic, cultural issues and entrepreneurship. A paper on “Traditional Fishermen During The Digital Era” will be presented by former MAIS Melanau Ethnic Research Section Head, Hat Hoklai while Diana Rose of Lamin Dana Boutique & Lodge will present a paper on “Way Forward For The Melanau Society”.

Meanwhile, UiTM Sarawak Mukah Campus Lecturer, Mohamad Musa Bohari, will present a paper on “Sustaining The Melanau Language: What Next?” while Ventures Academic Lecturer, Ahmad Qadri Basrie will present a paper on “Melanau Youth Agenda In The Digital Era”.

One of the objectives of MCS is to preserve the richness of cultures in the state. The participants of the event will be from various Melanau Associations, academicians, entrepreneurs, government servants and those from the private sector and non-governmental bodies.

Chief Minister, Datuk Patinggi (Dr) Abang Johari Tun Openg, is expected to officiate the symposium on the afternoon of November 1. He will attend the Melanau Cultural Gala Night on the same day with the Head of State, Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud.
