33 rundown schools in Sarawak approved for repairs this year

SIBU: The Sarawak government and the federal Ministry of Education are working closely to resolve the issue of dilapidated schools in the state which has been dragging on for some time.

“This year, a total of 33 schools in Sarawak have been approved for upgrading and the construction of replacement buildings under the 12th Malaysia Plan,” Meradong assemblyman Datuk Ding Kuong Hiing said.

He said the government had also approved 147 projects to repair dilapidated buildings throughout the state under a RM1 billion initiative.

“As the Meradong representative I will strive to obtain allocations from the Sarawak government to help fund educational programmes at the Teachers’ Training Institute (IPG) Rajang Campus to benefit our trainee teachers,” he added.

He was speaking at the IPG Rajang Campus Excellent Service Award (APC) 2022 ceremony at a leading hotel here last night (Aug 30).

Ding advised educators to understand various government policies and cooperate with the government.

“This is to ensure the smooth implementation of Sarawak’s development plans,” he said.

Meanwhile, on the event, Ding said that he hoped the awards will raise the spirit and determination of all IPG Rajang Campus educators and staff to continue displaying quality and trusted personalities, and encouraged them to carry out their work responsibly.

“I want to congratulate all award recipients for their achievements. May this success inspire all members of the Rajang Campus IPG to continue serving with dedication and excellence,” he said.

Seven recipients received the APC 2022 award. Other award recipients were Research & Innovation Award (three),  Excellent Image Award (three), INSPERA Charisma Award (three), Gold Service Award (two), Silver Award (five), Bronze Award (four), and Loyalty Award (two).

Ding also announced an allocation of RM10,000 to the IPG Rajang Campus for its activities.

Also present were the IPG Rajang Campus director Yahya Sedik and IPG Rajang Campus deputy director Salahuddin Mohamed Nor.
