LAWAS: Extra vigilance paid off for a team of enforcement officers from Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) based at Trusan, near here last Friday.

The team came across suspicious activities at Long Sukang and called in help from District Customer Service Centre (DCSC) Lawas to raid a logging operation believed to be illegal.

“A thorough search of the area yielded a total of 355 logs of various sizes and species amounting to some 600 cubic meters in volume.

These logs are believed to have been illegally felled from a nearby forest where the licence to log had expired,” said a SFC statement issued yesterday.

A police report had been lodged at Lawas Police Station and the detained logs had been handed over to the Forest Department for further investigation and disposal.
