36 receive Tun Taib Scholarships

KUCHING: A total of 36 students received Tun Taib Scholarship at Dewan Besar, Astana Negeri yesterday.

The scholarship was handed over by Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud.

According to Chief Minister, Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg, in pursuit of digital economy, Sarawak has to develop its human resource capital especially with new discipline of knowledge. 

“36 students are the first batch under the Tun Taib Bursary. Yayasan Sarawak will continue to award scholarships to students irrespective of race and religious background to do studies in the country and overseas.

“The postgraduate studies are on new discipline including cybersecurity, information technology and agricultural engineering,” said Johari when speaking at the event.

He hoped the first degree students will continue their studies to postgraduate levels where they can do research which are beneficial to Sarawak Digital Economy push.

The recipients comprising 32 first degree students and four postgraduate students from University Putra Malaysia (UPM), Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas), Curtin University Malaysia, Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak, and University College of Technology Sarawak (UCTS).
