KUCHING: Tourists can now explore Sarawak’s many hidden gems following the launch of 37 packages by 13 tourism agencies here on Tuesday.

Among these packages announced during the launch of the Sarawak Delta Geopark and Gawai 2024 tourism packages are Geological, Heritage & Exploration Package; The Hidden Prehistory & Geological Sites Package; Cloud Glamping Package; Nature & Cultural Package and many more.

Director of Package Development Tourism Malaysia Board, Mohd Roslan Abdullah said that tourists who purchase these packages not only explore and visit these geolocations, biology sites and cultural sites but also can experience the majestic atmosphere of Gawai Festival.

“Tourists can experience Gawai Festival if they choose to visit Sarawak when Gawai Festival starts”, he said in his speech during the launching event in Roxy Impiana Hotel here.

In the meantime, he stated that the introduction of these packages was to diversify the choice of tourism destinations alongside the Gawai celebrations to promote Visit Malaysia 2026.

“These packages also can help to catalyse in preserving our heritage, history and culture, as well as to encourage locals to involve themselves in economic activities,” he added.

Additionally, he announced that the packages were also launched at the recent International Tourism Exhibition (ITB) Berlin.

“I hope that these packages will attract high-quality tourists, although he refrained from disclosing specific targets for the number of tourists expected through these packages.

“I cannot specify the target number of tourists to be brought in through these packages because these packages target high-spending tourists who will contribute significantly here.

“We do hope for a high turnout, but I cannot state a specific target,” he clarified.

At the same event, a book titled “Sarawak Delta Geopark and Gawai” was also launched, listing various tourism packages available in Sarawak.

Also present were permanent secretary Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts Sherrina Hussaini; chief executive officer Sarawak Tourism Board Sharzede Salleh Askor, and other distinguished guests.
