40-year-old man fined RM110,000

MIRI: A 40-year-old man was fined of RM110,000 in default of two years’ imprisonment after he was found guilty by the Magistrate’s Court here on Thursday.

Mohd Hafizuddin Abdullah was found to have committed the offence in possession of prohibited goods under Section 135(1)(d) of the Customs Act 1967 and Section 135 (1)(v)(aa) of the same act, at Lot 5252, Jalan Desa Indah Bandar Baru Permyjaya on June 10 this year.

Magistrate Md Syafique Md Hilmie also ordered the goods seized, valued at RM10, 559.14, to be forfeited and disposed of by the prosecution under Section 127 of the Customs Act 1967 after the laps of a 14-day period of appeal.

The court also ordered Mohd Hafizuddin to pay RM16,623.45 for the amount of the Customs duty leviable which has not been proved to have been paid.

Mohd Hafizuddin was not represented, while Alfred Rentap of the Royal Malaysia Custom Department (Miri branch) prosecuted.
