45 Indonesians including five children were arrested in a series of operations conducted in Bintulu and Tatau

BINTULU: The Sarawak Immigration Department is committed in tackling issues pertaining to illegal immigrants even during the public holiday on Labour Day.

Recently, 45 foreigners including five children were arrested for various immigration offenses.

Acting on complaints and gathered intelligence, the Bintulu Immigration Enforcement Unit conducted a series of operations at eateries, plantation workers’ quarters, farm houses, fertiliser factories, sawmills and reflexology centres.

The team have inspected 91 individuals for their documentation at Bintulu and Tatau districts, starting from 11pm on Apr 30 until 2pm on May 1.

Of the figure, 45 Indonesians were taken into custody for offenses such as overstaying and lacking valid permits to stay in Malaysia.

The detained foreigners consist of 31 men, nine women and five children. The case is being investigated under the Immigration Act 1959/63.

In light of this, the department urged employers and foreign workers to adhere to the law by applying the appropriate permits in accordance with provisions of Malaysia law.
