KUCHING: A total of 45 individuals shaved their head for this year’s GoBald event to help raise fund for the Sarawak Children’s Cancer s Society (SCCS).

SCCS vice president Dayang Juliana Abang Dalhan said the programme was held to spread hope to children battling with cancer in conjunction with Cancer Survivor Month.

She said this year’s GoBald is held physically after it was halted due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Hope is a very important message we want to convey today as we celebrate Cancer Survivor Month in June.

“Hope is also the greatest gift we can share with our little cancer fighters, to keep them going in this battle.

“To date, GoBald 2023 has raised more than RM735,000 from more than 1,900 donors and about 130 people in Malaysia with at least 108 pledges to have their heads shaved as of June,” she said prior to the shaving ceremony held at Vivacity Megamall here, yesterday.

The fund, she said, will be able to help about 40 children who are currently under active treatment and about 150 children who are still in remission continuing follow-up care across Sarawak.

“The amount SCCS needs for its yearly expenditure is RM2 million to carry out its five core services which are Support (S), Accommodation (A), Financial (F), Education (E) and R (Recreation).

“All funds collected are used for all services and their respective areas.

“Donations from the public are very much needed by us to continue helping and give encouragement to the patients and families to carry on with their daily lives.

“With fundraising like this, we hope that many more will be willing to contribute and support so that we can continue our good efforts in SCCS,” she said.

Meanwhile, three family members went bald in support of their 14-year-old son and nephew, Daniel Kueh.

The three are his father, Kueh Joo Leong, Karen Kueh (mother) and his aunt, Michelle Kueh.
