‘3 Serangkai’ final dance showcase.

KUCHING: A final dance showcase titled ‘3 Serangkai’ unfolded at Sarawak Cultural Village here Saturday night, featuring 47 students from Sekolah Seni Malaysia Sarawak (SSeMS) who put their performing arts skills and knowledge to the test.

This production was carried out by candidates of Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) 2023 under the guidance of eight dance art teachers, led by dance coach Halina Lim Mei Phing and Ahmady Radi under the subject of Performance Art Production.

Ahmady explained that the showcase served as an assessment for the SPM 2023 candidates.

“Through this showcase, students will be evaluated based on their proficiency in managing a stage performance production, occupying vital roles such as production manager, performance director, and marketing director,” he said when contacted by New Sarawak Tribune.

Furthermore, he unscored the unwavering support received from the SSeMS principal Reduan Taha, who aimed to expose students to the world of performing arts.

“This effort is in line with the school’s slogan of ‘Knowledgeable Culturalist, Cultural Scholars’.

“This approach didn’t solely focus on performing arts but also highlighted the quality of students in academic fields,” he added.

In this edition of the showcase, the performance featured a repertoire of 15 traditional dances representing the three main regions of Malaysia: Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah, and Sarawak.

The production was choreographed by four individuals: Rejerki Misek, Ahmady Radi, Joshua Gundi Sirai (a Malaysia Art School Sarawak alumni), and Formalavia (a Sarawak Cultural Village choreographer).

He also expressed gratitude for the support from Jane Lian Labang, the general manager of Sarawak Cultural Village, and the sponsorship of clothing and accessories from the Kasuma Tari Arts Organisation towards the production.
