SONG: Five hundred school bags and writing equipment donated by Yayasan PEKEMA Sarawak were successfully distributed to students during a ceremony here yesterday (January 19).

Katibas assemblyman Lidam Assan said that corporate social responsibility (CSR) programmes were well-received at the constituency level and should be held periodically.

“In Katibas, we always encourage school communities, especially teachers, to identify students classified under less privileged groups who need assistance.

“We will support this list in our efforts to aid the teaching and learning process of these students, ultimately producing a generation that excels and doesn’t get left behind in the modernisation of education,“ he said.

Deputy president of PEKEMA Sarawak, Tapah Ata, explained that the school bag distribution programme was an annual event for the organisation.

He said besides schools in Kuching, PEKEMA also provided assistance to schools located in the outskirts of urban centres and in rural areas, especially those categorised as Low-Enrolment Schools (SKM).

“The value of the contribution may be small, but what we hope for is that it will yield results and subsequently produce children who excel academically and become catalysts of hope for the nation in the future,” he said.
