KUCHING: The Supermodel Borneo Second Edition 2022 (SB) competition intends to defy modelling norms and combat depressive concerns relating to body shaming among younger generations.

During a press conference held at Shangri-La Restaurant (Cityone Mall), SB chairlady Dr Deborah Chong noted that the competition offered a new platform to infuse new talents of models in various categories.

Deborah went on to say that the competition categories would include standard, petite, plus size, drag queens, and hijab.

“Everyone should have equal opportunity to be trained and showcase their talents on a supermodel runway and photography.

“This platform will serve as a channel for them to build up their confidence level and encourage them to feel they are super in their own ways as models for example.

“It should not be just the typical tall and slim models who only create more limitations,” she said.

She said the competition also served as a forum for local designers to showcase their ready-to-wear.

“We want it to incorporate traditional materials into current contemporary creations that can be introduced internationally.

“Designers will be able to promote Sarawak’s local ethnic materials and costumes for public sale, as well as to showcase our local talents throughout the country and on international platforms.”

According to her, local make-up artists and photographers could use this platform to exhibit their talents and to earn extra income in the fashion industry.

The groups from SB are said to be passionate experts in their respective fields and are dedicated in training the models for the upcoming grand final.

“These teams have been carefully selected and share common goals and objectives to create a platform that can help emerging talents attain a magnificent and brighter future.”

The grand final will be held on July 30 at Shangri-La Restaurant.
