52 come out tops in OKShe competition

KUCHING: Out of the over 1,000 participants in the Old Kuching Smart Heritage (OKShe) Photography and Short Video competition, 52 ended up as winners.

The prize-giving ceremony was held yesterday at Sarawak Multimedia Authority (SMA) Creative Heritage Innovation Centre (CHIC).

The competition was held from Oct 1 to Nov 30 last year with a prize pool of RM41,800. The competition was to increase the quality of local content production and filmmaking in Sarawak.

Chong Siat Choo, with his photo entitled ‘Iban Ladies ― Mooncake Festival’ placed first in the Photography Open category, taking home RM3, 000.

In the Photography Student category, Nuryasyqin Abdillah, with her entry ‘Perahu Tambang’, picked up RM1, 500 as winner.

Nur Syazein Sajali impressed the judges with his ‘Bongkol ― A Little Parcel of Happiness’ short video, winning the Videography Open category and RM5, 000.

In the Videography Student category, Siti Zulaiha Md Yusof won RM3,000 with her ‘Sesar Unjur’ video.

The prizes were presented by Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister’s Department Datuk Abdul Rahman Junaidi and Deputy State Secretary Datuk Dr Sabariah Putit.

In his remarks, Abdul Rahman said the high number of participants showed high interest from youths in the creative media industry, especially students while attracting both amateur and professional photographers and videographers as well.

The competition was also part of OKShe’s initiative to encourage local filmmakers to promote the heritage and uniqueness that Sarawak has to offer.
