SIBU: Entrepreneurs have been urged to venture into new products especially handicrafts which have not been commercialised.

Deputy Minister of Education, Innovation and Talent Development Datuk Dr Annuar Rapaee said these products have the potential to be commercialised worldwide.

“We cannot look for others that have been established, we must look at areas where others have not been in the market yet so that we can be the sole producer and become better in terms of producing a product that can be commercialised.

“Look for something new, don’t compete with those who have already established their product. Look for a new product that can increase your income,” he said after the closing ceremony of the Buriek workshop at Pustaka today (Feb 19).

On the programme, Dr Annuar who is also Nangka assemblyman hoped participants will benefit from the training and commercialise what they have learned.

Earlier in his speech he also urged entrepreneurs to seize the opportunity to take their businesses online to have wider market access.

“The market is open to everybody which means anyone can become an entrepreneur. It becomes borderless. It depends on your effort. Now we don’t need a middleman to commercialise our product because we have a digital platform.”

A total of 30 participants from all over Sibu participated in the programme organised by the Saberkas Nangka branch together with Pustaka Negeri Sarawak Sibu branch.

Also present was Saberkas Nangka Branch secretary Norizam Sanyut.
