60 SJKCH Pangkalan Baru students partake in Amazing Green Race

KUCHING: About 60 students of SJK Chung Hua (SKJCH) Pangkalan Baru recently took part in the Amazing Green Race jointly organised by Trienekens (Sarawak) Sdn. Bhd with support from Padawan Municipal Council (MPP).

The green race was part of a solid waste segregation awareness and education programme introduced by both parties at the school recently.

“It is important to ensure that environmental awareness among students continues to strengthen along with their academic achievements,” said Trienekens’Department Manager for CSR, Janet J. Balong.

“This green race is one of the ways we incorporate recycling into the learning environment. We hope that the students will learn to appreciate the importance of preserving our natural resources and keeping the environment clean by managing our daily waste responsibly and properly.”

The groups of students raced to complete several tasks related to environmental preservation and recycling. Group Two emerged as the top winner having completed all tasks with the fastest time while Group Six and Group Four came out second and third place respectively.

All winners took home hampers and medals as their prizes. Present to hand over the prizes to the students were MPP officer, Paul Aning,Trienekens’ Corporate Communicat ion Execut ive, Anthea Lee and the school’s Headmistress Jong Siaw Hui. SJK Chung Hua Pangkalan Baru is one of several schools taking part in the Solid Waste Segregation and Recycling Prog rammeorganisedjointly by MPP and Trienekens.

Its objectives are to introduce the 3R (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) concept and inculcate the habit and practice of separating solid waste at source amongst school students.
