KOTA SAMARAHAN: About 600 partook in the ‘Didik Hibur-Kamishibai Antarabangsa 2017’ workshop held from 18 – 20 April.

According to Chief Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Abang Haji Openg, who has his text of speech read by Assistant Minister of Solidarity Rosey Yunus, the future of the nation depends on a teaching system that is always expanding dynamically and progressively.

“This will produce teachers who are of high quality, always looking to improve themselves, and possessing a high level of ethics.

“Nowadays, the teacher is no longer just the presenter and the students as the listeners.

“It is a two-way system whereby teachers also play the role of facilitator and use teaching methods that are conducive, open, interactive, interesting, and student-centred,” he said during the closing ceremony of the workshop which was held at IPG Tun Abdul Razak campus here yesterday.

His text of speech was read by Assistant Minister of Solidarity Rosey Yunus who represented him at the event.

Johari also added that teachers now are facing a generation of students who are very different from the previous ones as they are more exposed to information which they can easily obtain thanks to today’s technology.

“These students also have a high level of curiosity whereby they want to know and ask in greater depth.

“Therefore, the teaching and learning concepts have to be changed to suit the changing times as students now are not like before, whereby they are capable of learning independently.

“We need to rethink the learning and teaching framework whereby it’s more active, interactive, immersive, challenge-based, hands-on, and entertaining,” he said.

The workshop was co-organised by the campus together with Taiyo Yuden Sarawak Sdn Bhd with the objective of increasing the quality of teaching and how to make the teaching process more effective.

Also present during the event was the campus’ director Hamsiah Abdullah Masni.
