KUALA LUMPUR:  A total of 67 durian orchards have registered with the Agriculture Department for visit by the General Administration of Customs of The People’s Republic of China (GACC) before they can be given the approval to export frozen durian to China, the Dewan Rakyat was told today.

Deputy Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Minister Sim Tze Tzin said GACC would visit the orchards and check on their facilities in May.

“If all conditions are complied with and approved by GACC, only then the process of exporting frozen durians to China can be done,” he said in response to a question from Lim Lip Eng (PH-Kepong) on the status of the export of frozen durian from Malaysia to China.

Sim said there is a protocol set by GACC for export of durian into its country, such as the need for the orchards to be registered with the Agriculture Department and for facility owners to observe the Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) issued by the Health Ministry and also Good Agriculture Practice. – Bernama
