KUCHING: About 700 people from all over Malaysia will take part in the 20th Tilawah Al-Quran and Nasyid programme of the Malaysian Orphans Welfare Organisation (Peyatim to be held from August 26 -28 at Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) in Kota Samarahan.
Sarawak Peyatim will be hosting the biennial event this year.
Chief Minister, Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg will grace the opening ceremony on August 26 and the closing ceremony on August 28.
Sarawak Islamic Council chairman, Datu Haji Misnu Haji Taha said the programme aimed to uncover new talents among the orphans.
“It will also strengthen the ties between the organiser and orphans and encourage the sharing of knowledge and ideas he told a press conference at Peryatim, Petra Jaya, yesterday.
Various activities to be held during the three-day programme include a Nasyid competition, Tilawah Al-Quran, Syarahan Bahasa Malaysia, Syarahan Bahasa Inggeris, Berzanji and Azan
“Sarawak will send about 143 participants, 12 other states will also send their participants,” added Misnu.
