KUCHING: Narcotic police here arrested two men and seized 77.64g of syabu with a total value of RM7,764 at separate locations over the weekend.

District police chief ACP Ahsmon Bajah said the first arrest on Saturday (Oct 9) involved a 51-year-old man who was in possession of nine plastic packets of syabu weighing 71.96g.

“The narcotic police raided an area behind Chong Lin Plaza building at Jalan Green around 5pm and detained the suspect who was in a parked four-wheel drive (4WD) vehicle.

“The team found and seized the drugs valued around RM7,196, which were kept inside a plastic bag,” he said.

Meanwhile, the second arrest on Sunday (Oct 10) involved a 33-year-old man who was in possession of four plastic packets of syabu weighing 5.68g.

The police arrested the suspect by the roadside at Cahaya Mata 4, Bandar Baru Semariang around 11am and seized the drugs valued around RM568.

Ahsmon said the first suspect, who did not have a past record and tested negative for drugs, would be investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 which carried a mandatory death sentence or life imprisonment with 15 lashes of whipping if convicted.

Investigations found that there was an arrest warrant against the second suspect. He will be subject to action under Section 39C of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

“Background checks found that the second suspect had three past records related to drugs. He also tested positive for drugs.

“The suspect will be investigated under Section 39A (1) and Section 15 (1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952,” he said.
