KUCHING: About 800 participants attended the Third Sarawak Civil Service Psychology and Counselling Day which was held at Pullman Hotel here on Wednesday. Officiating the closing ceremony was State Secretary Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohammad Morshidi Abdul Ghani, who was represented by Deputy State Secretary Datu Dr Sabariah Putit, who also read his text speech. In his speech, Morshidi urged those in the field of psychology and counselling to keep up and stay relevant as the world is moving in a digital era.

“The practice of distance psychological counselling is on the rise. The concept of telepsychology includes both online interventions such as the telephone, e-mail, chat, and video conference.

“A study on anger management therapy found out that both traditional and digitalise approaches were equally efficacious,” he said. Morshidi also said that digitalisation represents a new form of hyer-connected organisation and collective talent management that will change the role of the human resources department.

“Therefore, we should be able to digitally lead this change and help members of the organisation to carry out cultural and organisational changes brought about by the technological impact. “With this ever-changing world, the psychology and counselling sectors should not be complacent in nature,” he said.
