KUCHING: The National Anti-Drug Agency (Nada) has identified a few high-risk areas in Sarawak.

The areas identified include Kampung Tabuan Melayu, Matang, and Kampung Haji Baki in Kuching as well as Kampung Tanjung Bundong and Kampung Baru in Samarahan, Bekenu and Batu Niah in Miri.

According to its director-general Datuk Seri Zulkifli Abdullah, Nada is planning to visit these locations to speak with local community leaders as well as related non-governmental organisations (NGOs) to assist them in battling drug-related issues.

“I had the pleasure to visit Kampung Lintang here yesterday (Feb 1). It used to be a red zone for drug addiction and abuse issues.

“But thanks to the commitment made by the community leaders there, it is now a green zone which means the problems are under control,” he said when met by reporters during his site visit at the new Cure and Care Rehabilitation Centre (CCRC) in Puncak Borneo here yesterday.

Zulkifli clarified that even though there are a few high-risk areas in the state, Sarawak currently has one of the lowest drug addiction and abuse cases in the country.

Currently, there are 1,640 patients under the care of Nada in the state and most cases here involve the usage of synthetic drugs.

Zulkifli expressed his hopes to clean up any drug-related issues in the areas mentioned, in the near future.
