LUNDU: An Indonesian male worker died from severe head injuries after he was involved in a tractor accident at Union Plantations Sdn Bhd field, Sampadi here on Sunday (July 19).
The victim was identified as 49-year-old Satrah, one of the farm labourers at the location.
Sarawak Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief Supt Alexson Naga Chabu said the incident involved a tractor driven by another worker, 43, with the victim in it before the crash at 8.30am.
“Investigations found that the incident happened when the driver shifted gears, causing the tractor to move forward quickly.
“The victim (passenger), who was sitting at the side of the trailer, jumped off the vehicle and sustained severe head injuries after landing on a rock,” he said in a statement.
Alexson added that the driver had taken the victim to a residential dormitory for treatment assistance but the latter died soon after.
The victim’s body was then taken to Lundu Hospital by a company vehicle, which was escorted by the police.
