Association pledges continued growth for Chinese Muslim community

KUCHING: At the recent 6th Annual General Meeting of the Persatuan Kebajikan Tiong Hua Islam Sarawak (PERKTHIS), the association installed its new committee members who will serve from July 2023 to July 2026.

The meeting, attended by members from Bintulu, Sibu, Sarikei and Kuching, saw the reelection of prominent figures to key positions.

Mortadha Lau retained his position as president, while Mohd Luk secured his position as deputy president. Lukhman Ting was elected as the vice-president.

“The association’s leadership also includes Nur Aisyah Chan as the honorary secretary and Zahrah Abang Othman as the assistant secretary. Noor Azlyn Lee takes on the role of treasurer, with Rose Nawi serving as the assistant treasurer. Together, they form a cohesive team committed to advancing the objectives of PERKTHIS,” according to a statement on Tuesday (Nov 21).

The committee members include Adam Sim, Nasyitah Ting, Fyrdaus Azymin Wong, and Helen Chung Abdullah.

Mortadha expressed his commitment to fostering collaboration with other Islamic organisations, both in Sarawak and across Peninsular Malaysia.

“The importance of mutual support, by working together, could address any shortcomings and disadvantages that may arise,” he said.

He also stressed that with the presence of PERKTHIS, the Chinese Muslim community in Sarawak will continue to grow and develop.
