KABONG: The state government will look into requests to establish community based offices in the new township here.
Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said the requests have been made by the Malay, Chinese and Iban communities as well as women.
“They have requested to have their own office so that they can organise their activities there,” said, assuring that this would be considered.
He was speaking at the closing of the Kabong International Kite Festival 2024 at Dewan Terbuka Pantai Tanjung Kembang, on Sunday (Mar 10).
Earlier he said, the Sarawak government under Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) is committed to providing infrastructure and utilities for the new township.
“We will also build the housing area and villagers can own houses with lower housing loan interest offered by Mutiara Mortage.
“We will have a more organised new township including a modern market and we believe more people will come to visit, thus bringing economic prosperity to the residents,” he added.
Meanwhile, on a related note, Abang Johari said the completion of 12 bridges along the coastal area will connect all the villages located there.
“The villages along the coastal area will be connected. For example, once the Batang Lupar bridge is completed, travel between Kuching to Sibu will only take two hours and 30 minutes.
“And when you have another festival here later, certainly more visitors will come and probably the space in Kabong will be not enough to cater to the numbers of visitors ,” he said.
