MIRI: The semi-automatic gun used in last Thursday’s shooting incident in Taman Jelita here has been recovered.
It was found inside a drain about 50 metres from the shooting incident by a team of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) here at 2pm on Sunday.
City police chief ACP Lim Meng Seah who confirmed the discovery when contacted yesterday, believed the gun was one of the weapons used by the suspects in a shootout incident with the police last Thursday in the area.
The discovery was made nearby a house, behind the shooting scene.
According to Lim, the silver coloured gun, identified as a Walther PPK type, is made in West Germany. It was found hidden inside the pipeline of the drain by the third suspect who is still at large.
“Our Criminal Investigation team (CID) also found one live bullet and a cartridge at the scene,” said Lim.
It was believed that the culprit tossed the gun inside the drain while escaping in the shootout incident.
One mobile police vehicle (MPV) personnel and one of three suspects were both injured in the shootout.
The case is being investigated under Section 3 of the Firearms (Increased Penalties) Act 1971 and Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder.
