Over 111,800 have registered with i-Suri

KUCHING: A financial scheme formed under the name “i-Suri” is solely for full time housewives to help lighten their burden.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail announced this when she attended an Aidilfitri gathering at Matang Mall, Matang here, yesterday.

Wan Azizah who is also Women, Family and Community Development Minister added that as of 31 May this year a total of 111,879 women in the country had registered with the scheme.

“On the same day (May 31) in Sarawak, 17,890 housewives had registered with the scheme as well,” she said in her speech.

She also urged all qualified housewives to participate in the scheme.

“At the same time, political party members and leaders need to go to the ground to help realise the scheme which we have set up to help women, especially housewives.

“On behalf of the ministry, we conducted the i-Suri campaign since early morning today until tonight in the Program Santuni Rakyat at Mydin Mall in Petra Jaya. Alhamdulillah (god willing) the response from members of the public and the target group is very encouraging,” she said.

More than 3,000 people attended the Aidilfitri gathering with Wan Azizah and among those present were non-executive special advisor (Sarawak affairs) in the Deputy Prime Minister’s office Datuk Seri Hafsah Harun, the event’s organising chairperson Datuk Dr Nor Irwan Ahmat Nor and Miri MP Michael Teo Yu Keng.

The programme ended with a contribution presentation by Wan Azizah herself to three single mothers and a special contribution to Salina Yusof, wife of the late Rahmat Idil Abdul Latif who was the former chief of Angkatan Muda Keadilan (AMK) Sarawak.
