KUCHING: A family of four travelled all the way from their Mile 13 home to visit the Borneo Cultures Museum (BCM) in the heart of the city here yesterday.
To their utter surprise, one of them, nine-year-old Noor Shaziatul Amani, turned out to be a lucky visitor for the day.
The family consisted of the father, 36-year-old contractor, Mohd Shahril Muhirin, his wife, Nur Azirah Mohd Ali Kenapiah and daughters, Noor Shaziatul and her younger sibling Noor Delisha Afia.
The family decided to tour the museum at the request of the two daughters.
Imagine their immense surprise when Noor Shaziatul was presented with a Samsung smartphone and tablet for being the museum’s one millionth visitor since its inauguration in 2022.
Mohd Shahril stated it was the first time he was visiting the museum with his family.
“I am still in shock because I didn’t know that my daughter would be the one millionth visitor at this museum,” he told reporters.
His 34-year-old wife Nur Azirah said she did not know what was happening when the museum staff clapped their hands upon their arrival.
“After being told that our daughter was the lucky one today, we proceeded to tour the museum,” said the Kemas assistant.
After more than an hour of touring the museum, the family was treated to a surprise where they were told that Noor Shaziatul was the one millionth visitor to the museum.
Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Minister, Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, who was present to welcome the family, presented the gifts to the family.
Among other items presented to the family were also a T-shirt, mug, tumbler and tote bag.
Later, the family was also invited to join the Minister and other dignitaries for a luncheon at the BCM Restaurant. ends
