A shock for Aussies but not a surprise for Pakistanis

KUCHING: Pakistan’s Amir Muhammad Mazari is confident that they will do well in the ITF World Tennis Junior Team Competition U14 (Boys) Asia/Oceania Final Qualifying after defeating second seed Australia in the quarter-final on Thursday.

He told the reporters that beating Australia were within their expectations as they have been working hard to prepare for this tournament.

“Yes, it was within our expectations as we have a strong team and we have good coordination among ourselves.

“We have been preparing ourselves for this tournament in our country for a while now and when it comes to the matches we put in our 100 to 110 per cent of our effort in order to win,” he told the reporters this after the match at Sarawak Lawn Tennis Association (SLTA) Centre.

When asked whether Pakistan will now target to win the whole qualifying tournament here, he remained coy and said that they will try their best.

“Securing the qualification for the grand finals has always been our target in Kuching.

“As for the championship, we will try our best and see where it takes us,” he added.

Commenting on their opponents Hong Kong on Friday, he said that he has not seen the opponents matches yet but he is aware that they are a strong team.

“We have not seen their matches yet but we are aware that Hong Kong are a very strong team.

“However, we are confident and we will try our best in the semi-final regardless,” he added.
