KUCHING: Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Berrsatu (PBB) vice-president Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah has criticised Sarawak Democratic Action Party (DAP) for always changing its stance in the hope of getting support from voters.

He said last February, Sarawak DAP chairman Chong Chieng Jen expressed his support for Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) president Anwar Ibrahim to become the prime minister, but later said the party would support Shafie Apdal from Warisan.

“Sarawak DAP changed its stance just because it wanted to follow the regional sentiment, to support someone from a Borneo state to become the next prime minister and hoping to get support from voters.

“This is also to show his support for Sabah DAP, which is in the current Sabah government,” said Abdul Karim, who is also Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Minister, in a statement on Tuesday (July 21).

“This shows that the Sarawak DAP leader is confused and unable to decide which candidate to support.”

In February, at an event to welcome Anwar to Sarawak, Chong said that the party’s main agenda was for Anwar to be the next prime minister.

“However, later, Chong said that Sarawak DAP would support Shafie, adding that as East Malaysians, there is no reason why they should not support fellow East Malaysians as the future prime minister,” he said.
