KUCHING: Border restrictions China has affected the tourism industry globally, said Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.

As such, the Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts (MTCP) Minister expressed his hope that the borders will be open next year.

“It is not only about Chinese tourists coming down to this region but it is also about Malaysians’ love to go to China as well. It is a two way (benefit).

“That is why I can’t wait to see the borders open,” he said.

He said this at a press conference after officiating the Malaysia Inbound Chinese Association (MICA) Foliday Campaign and B2B Networking at Waterfront Hotel on Monday (Oct 17).

Alluding to the ceremony, he lauded MICA for coming to Sarawak to promote inbound leisure travel in the state.

“With this, there will be more Malaysians realising that Sarawak is a unique destination that is equipped with various food, diversity of the people and adventures as the state has 31 ethnicities which have their own food and cultures that can be explored” he said.
