SIBU: Sarawak Workers Party (SWP) suggested yesterday that the National Service Programme be absorbed in the school extracurricular activities.
In a statement on his reaction towards the abolishment of the programme as announced by the Youth and Sports Minister, Syed Saddiq Abdul Rahman, SWP’s president, Munan Laja said the National Service Programme should be taught in school and was only effective when it was done at an early age.
“The best to start it is from Form 1 to Form 6 for a period of 6 years. Three months’ training in the National Service as of now is too short of a period,” he said.
According to him, the main focus of the Form 5 and 6 students is to further their studies or to look for employment.- Bernama
