Abun, Wong made Senators

KUCHING: Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Sarawak deputy chairman Abun Sui Anyit and Democratic Action Party (DAP) Sarikei branch secretary Roderick Wong Siew Lead have been sworn in as Senators.

They were among 16 persons who took their oath of office before Dewan Negara president Tan Sri Dr Rais Yatim on today (Mar 20).

Abun, Wong, and nine others were appointed Senators by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong for a two-year term.

They are Datuk Seri Anifah Aman@Haniff Amman, Isaiah D Jacob, Manolan Mohamad (re-appointed), Tan Sri Datuk Low Kian Chuan, Prof Datuk Seri Dr Awang Sariyan, Datuk Wira Dr Mohd Hatta Md Ramli, Datuk Sivaraj Chandran, Mohd Hasbie Muda and Noorita Sual.

Meanwhile, the other five newly appointed Senators were selected by their respective State Legislative Assembly (DUN). They are Abdul Nasir Idris, Musoddak Ahmad, Dr Lingeshwaran Datuk Seri R. Arunasalam, Amir Ghazali and Hussin Ismail.

Dr Rais, in a statement said with the new appointments, the Dewan Negara now has a total of 64 Senators.

He hoped the new Senators would carry out their duties in accordance with the constitution.
