ACCCIS organises GST Ambassadors Programme

KUCHING: In response to the “Good & Ser vice Tax (GST) Ambassadors Programme” introduced by The Royal Malaysian Cu s t oms De p a r tme nt , t h e Associated Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Sarawak (ACCCIS) took the initiative to cooperate with Customs Department to organise said programme last Saturday.

During the opening remarks, Deputy President of ACCCIS, Tan Jit Kee, expressed that although GST has been implemented for more than two years but there were still some grey areas. However during business consultations, different officers give different answers, causing businesses to face difficulties when handling GST.

He stressed that businesses need to pay the output tax on time or they will be penalised by the Customs Department. Therefore, he urged the Customs Department to return the input tax on time to the businesses as well.

Lastly, when comes to viewing audit, he hopes the Customs officers to be more patient and lenient to businesses. “Looking at today’s attendance, I can surely tell you that our businesses are very keen know more about GST or otherwise they not need to attend the programme this morning” he added.
