MUKAH: A student succumbed to severe injuries in an accident at KM116 of Sibu-Bintulu Road, Selangau on Thursday (Dec 21).

Mukah District Police Chief, Deputy Superintendent Muhamad Rizal Alias, said the incident involving a lorry and a motorcycle occurred around 5 pm.

“The investigation revealed that the accident occurred when the motorcycle ridden by the student collided with the back of the lorry as both were moving straight from the direction of Bintulu.

“As a result, the 16-year-old student was confirmed dead at the scene by the Medical Officer of Sungai Arip Health Clinic,” he said.

Muhamad added that the lorry driver, aged 40, did not suffer any injuries. The front portion of the motorcycle was damaged while the lorry was not damaged at all.

The body of the deceased was taken to the Mukah Hospital mortuary.

The lorry and motorcycle were detained at the Selangau Police Station for Puspakom inspection.

The investigation into the case is still ongoing under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
