Afternoon fire renders family of four homeless

MUKAH: A family of four in Kampung Penakup Tengah Hilir here, found themselves homeless today (Apr 4) following a devastating blaze that engulfed their home.

The incident, which occurred at 12.52 pm, fortunately resulted in no injuries or casualties as the family successfully evacuated to safety.

A spokesman for the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said that firefighters from Mukah station were deployed to the scene after receiving a distress call.

Upon arrival, they found that the blaze had consumed the house beyond salvage, prompting them to use water from nearby drains to extinguish the flames.

Following the containment of the blaze, overhaul works were conducted to eliminate any potential risks of reignition.

The fire also inflicted 10 per cent damages to a neighbouring house, inhabited by another family of four.

Once the situation was deemed safe, the operation concluded at 3.08 pm.

The cause of the fire and losses incurred is still under investigation.
